GUIDELINES
FOR USING COVER LETTERS
Even if
you personally hand your resume to an employer, it is usually a good idea to
add a cover letter:
a. When you are answering an ad.
b. When you are making a complete career change.
c. When you interview with anyone in the target
company.
d. When
sending an inquiry letter.
e. When
you are making a cold call and want to inquire as to whether they are hiring.
What
Should A Cover Letter Include?
Date
Name
and address
Explanation
of why you are writing – how you found out about the job opening.
Requirements of the company and description of your qualifications.
Explanation
of why you should be hired or what sets you apart from other candidates.
[Be
pro-active.] Ask for an interview or
tell them you will be calling to set up a time for an interview.
The
closing paragraph should thank the potential employer for his/her time and
consideration.
