EXAMPLE OF A WEEKLY JOB SEARCH PLAN

 

SUNDAY - Be kind to yourself.  Relax and do things you enjoy - be it going to a movie, taking a walk, being with a friend.  LET IT BE A DAY OF REST.

 

MONDAY MORNING - Mornings are not a good time for phone calls to employers or hiring managers as they are usually in meetings or catching up on e-mails or phone calls of their own.  THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO VISIT A COFFEE SHOP EARLY FOR NETWORKING PURPOSES.

 

PLAN YOUR WEEK BY DETERMINING -

Job leads you plan to send applications.

Follow-up phone calls you plan to make.

Access websites you are using.

Identify people you plan to network with this week.

Read classified ads for leads in local papers.

Visit the Workforce Center in your area.

Call any headhunters you have been using.

Contact a member of your super network by e-mail or phone.

Practice doing mock interviews with family and/or friends.

Update your resumes posted on important websites.

Call a targeted firm for an informational interview.

Have lunch close to a targeted firm to try to meet employees of the firm.

Write any follow-up thank you letters or leave thank you voice mails.

Find a volunteer job to keep your skills sharp and maybe work into learning more about a particular career field.

 

MONDAY AFTERNOON -

Make follow-up phone calls.

Check important websites.

Phone or e-mail more contacts in your super network.

Ready applications and resumes for mailing or e-mailing.

Send thank you e-mails to new contacts from lunch.

Get some exercise and do something you enjoy.

 

TUESDAY -

Start the morning at a coffee shop early with a few resumes in hand.

Read the morning papers for new ads.  ALSO, check for any Plan B jobs.

Phone hiring managers, headhunters or others to maintain contacts.

Review your weekly plan and make modifications.

Visit websites for new postings including the Workforce Center website.

Make phone calls to unemployed peers or friends looking for jobs.

Try to apply for at least one job.

Review your networking list to see if you missed contacting anyone.

Get some exercise.

 

WEDNESDAY -

Visit a coffee shop early for networking.

Make networking phone calls and/or calls to unemployed peers.

Read classified ads for new leads and check for Plan B jobs.

Review questions or approach you will use for any scheduled interviews.

Check websites for new job leads.

Review and adjust the rest of your weekly schedule.

Call at least one person in your super network.

Try to apply for at least one job.

 

THURSDAY -

Start the morning in a coffee shop to network and read classified ads.

Check for Plan B jobs and make follow-up calls.

Check websites you are using as well as the Workforce Center site.

Call or e-mail someone in your super network.

Check with headhunters you are using.

Interview with any firms you have scheduled.

Have lunch near a firm you have targeted for employment.

Network with an unemployed peer on the phone or by e-mail.

Exercise and then relax for awhile.

 

FRIDAY -

Have your morning coffee in a new coffee shop.

Read classified ads.

Make follow-up phone calls or new ones with potential employers.

Review e-mails, visit job websites, and make any applications you can.

Follow up with hiring managers or members of your networking group.

Visit your local Workforce Center for job leads.

Call people in your super network.

Exercise and have some fun with friends.

 

SATURDAY -

Network in a coffee shop.

Have lunch with a working friend whom you have not spoken with all week.

Read the classified ads for new job leads as well as Plan B jobs.

Check e-mails and job websites.

Determine if you can visit with other friends today.

Enjoy some time with family and friends.
